I mean, I see where everyone else is coming from and part of me feels the same way, but in the end it's their home, their traditions and you need to respect that, as does your boyfriend. Your boyfriend needs to respect your parents and not take offense to this. If he isn't understanding about that...it would be kind of a red flag, I think. Or if the guy did something wrong that caused the breakup, it could remind them how much he blew it and make them feel guilty and such.
