Actually, the latter is in effect no matter what age you are. Bottom line: work pays the bills, so of course it's a priority for a lot of people, especially when finding a job now is so tough. But after putting food on the table and a roof over your head, then it's a question of where your priorties and obligations are after that, and how much you are willing to compromise or even sacrifice for a relationship.
