He has not even tried to call me since I confronted him yesterday, so it appears that my gut feeling was correct all along. Thank you. I am trying to stay positive but I have to admit that it does hurt.

If I make any mention of the relationship, or ask what she’s thinking she says “she hasn’t thought about us yet and is trying to just let things happen.” She can't seem to go more than about four-five hours without texting me though. Since then I’ve been doing my best, and largely succeeding at calming myself down, but she has been all over the map. Calling me to say she wished I was there, missing me, gushing sentimentalism etc, etc, only to have it dry up and go cold the next day.

He may have explained you off as his 'charity lay' and he may be the only one who believes it, but it doesn't change the fact that whatever story he has to explain your reduced importance in his life, HE believes it even if they don't. He doesn't show boyfriend-type affection for you around them even if they've noticed he lights up around you and enjoys your company.
