Although he was not dating anybody else, after 4 months of dating, he was not willing to be exclusive when I discussed exclusivity . when I said I was going to break up with him, he almost had a heart attack. I had to kiss him first! He still says he doesn't know why he didn't want to be exclusive back then and thanks me for forcing him! He is one of those shy, awkward guys that need time to open up.

Also, having HSV1 in multiple locations is possible but rare, so even if you were a complete idiot and had oral sex during an outbreak, if your partner is already infected---and they probably are---they most likely wouldn't have another outbreak down there. But of course it's still possible, so don't do it. Given the vast majority of people alive have HSV1 there's no reason to disclose it.
