They need to be learned and discovered and given some faith and asked. Most decent people try to be communicative and responsive but there are bound to be differences. KISS OF DEATH. I've seen this in every relationship I've been in and I have a limited tolerance level for it. If the woman has a history of avoiding direct communication and expecting that to be uncomfortable, that's when negative conclusions start and conflicts ensue. The kiss of death is when the women tends to draw her own conclusions (always negative) instead of keeping an open mind and communicating directly to find out what she needs to know. It gets very tiresome to a man to have to try to keep undoing a negative perception that treats him other than what and who he really is. I'm not every man including their father who has done them wrong--I can only answer for myself. Then it starts to settle in what to expect and what is normal for this person. Some women think "I shouldn't have to ask" but the fact is that each person is a unique individual and does not get the universal playbook of perfect responsiveness imprinted into their minds.

And can she even live by your rules if you come to a compromise? Your definition of "responsible" and "not addicted" won't register with her because it's all relative. Most likely she'll lie again because she cannot live up to your expectations. If she smokes 6 times a day and feels it isn't an addiction and that she is responsible, but you feel it's irresponsible and an addiction, how do you both come to a compromise?

Unless someone or something frightens them into silence, they will repeat these slanders for years and years. Wanted to add that the reason I'm so adamant about this is that I've dated lots of women in my day, and have heard some truly outrageous, shocking accusations about lots of women's exes that later turned out to be completely groundless. The types who are prone to cheat more egregiously are EXACTLY the types who slander their exes in this way.
